Porcupines
Pokey the Porcupine
Song by Bryant Oden
G C
Pokey the porcupine
G D
He mostly takes his time
C D
Doesn’t get a lot of hugs but doesn’t mind
C D G
Pokey the porcupine
G C
Once pokey slipped and rolled down a hill
D G
Landed upside down in a marshmellow spill
He got right up and marched back up the hill
With a hundred marshmallows stuck to his quills
So Pokey went to the honeybear club
Where bears share their honey they love
He said Hey there bears I brought you a snack
And they pulled all the marshmellows off of his back
Pokey the porcupine
He mostly takes his time
Doesn’t get a lot of hugs but doesn’t mind
Pokey the porcupine
Once Pokey saw a big mountain lion
But that big cat was lying there crying
Pokey said what’s wrong with you
I got a splinter in my paw and I don’t know what to do
So Pokey pulled out one of his quills
Took out the splinter said now how do you feel
How can I thank you from my heart?
Don’t try to eat me is a darn good start
Pokey the porcupine
He mostly takes his time
Doesn’t get a lot of hugs but doesn’t mind
Pokey the porcupine
Once Pokey was walking just before dark
To his favorite try to eat some bark
But another porcupine was already there
A fine porcupine though he tried not to stare
You must be Pokey I’ve heard about you
All the smart and kind things you do
They talked a long time and when he got home
He said I think I’m done being alone
Pokey the porcupine
He mostly takes his time
Now he gets a lot of hugs and doesn’t mind
Pokey the porcupine
Pokey the porcupine
He mostly takes his time
Now he gets a lot of hugs and doesn’t mind
Pokey the porcupine

Do Not Touch the Animals
Never pet a porcupine.
Never poke a skunk.
Never grab a tiger's tooth,
Or squeeze an elephant's trunk.
Porcupines have prickly spines.
A skunk's scent smarts and stings.
Tigers' teeth are razor sharp.
Elephants remember things.
Never punch a crocodile.
Never pinch a rat.
Never whack a sleeping bear,
Or tickle a bob-tailed cat.
Crocodiles have mighty tails.
Rats have strong, sharp claws.
Bears don't like to wake up fast.
Bob-tailed cats have wicked jaws.
Never pet a porcupine.
Never poke a skunk.
Never grab a tiger's tooth,
Or squeeze an elephant's trunk.
Porcupines have prickly spines.
A skunk's scent smarts and stings.

Have kids color in and then slice apart the quills with scissors. Kids love making parallel cuts.
